I had one unlicensed non-certified fire protection sales person tell me today that this city had the best fire protection in the world. Having worked in 2 dozen states and a dozen countries, I quietly walked to my truck and drove home.

Improperly field modified fire alarm. Fire alarm system has been modified with a wall switch to expedite the by-passing of detection and notification appliances by fire alarm inspectors. $1 billion market cap for the owner/occupant of this high rise office building.

Riser room. $1 billion (market cap), office building. Company's headquarters. No, additional protection provided in this space. It's not like they realized the low reliability and poor fire protection of a pre-action system and replaced it with a more reliable lower cost wet pipe system (sigh).

Another blank calc plate. A FP inspector notes it missing, the FP inspection contractor installs it and says filling out the plate is not the fire protection inspection company's job.

Arrival at another high rise. Another vane type water flow switch cover not installed. Observed on about 90% of all sites I visit.

Another pump, another high rise

Is it auto sprinkler FDC? Is it a standpipe FDC? It is an auto sprinkler and standpipe FDC? Sort of. It is a 15 story residential high rise where there is a standpipe system (500 GPM at 75 PSI NET pressure). As for sprinkler, only the basement is sprinkler protected.
